The CenDel Foundation has distributed $25,000 in grants to organizations fostering the arts in central Delaware. The Kent County Fund for the Arts, a fund administered by CenDel with the help of the Delaware Community Foundation, distributed grants to 12 organizations in July. The grant amounts ranged from $750 to $3,000.
The 2018 recipients included the Biggs Museum of Art, CERTS, Inc., Delaware Choral Society, Delaware Shakespeare Festival, Easter Seals, Inner City Cultural League, Kent Chamber Choir, Mispillion Art League, The Children’s Theatre, The Music School of Delaware, VSA Delaware and Wesley College.
The funding will be used by the recipients to offer diverse performances and shows to the community. Funds will also be used for music education and art therapy. An awards luncheon was held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the CenDel Community Building to honor the recipients for their contributions to arts-related programs that enhance, educate and increase awareness in Kent County.
Terry Cippola of the Collaborative Effort to Reinforce Transition Success (CERTS) said the funding will help her organization fulfill its mission to improve the lives of adults with severe disabilities. “Art therapy is the cornerstone of our services and we are incredibly grateful for this grant, which will help keep this program going.” CERTS
The Kent County Fund for the Arts was established in 2008 through a generous contribution by Rosemary Twilley, in memory of Joshua Twilley, Esq. According to Rosemary, “It’s amazing how a performance or a work of art can enrich the lives of individuals, and that’s why the fund was established.”
The Fund is also supported by members of the Greater Kent Committee and art patrons across the State. The Fund is managed by the CenDel Foundation, along with the Kent County Fund for the Arts advisory board.
